Hey everyone welcome to Pros and Cons of diet trends - For people in a hurry

Fad Diets typically promise weight loss by eliminating one or more of the essential food groups.
Fad diets usually recommend one or more types of food while demonizing other food groups.

We’ve all been preached to by someone who was just converted to an amazing diet and they have seen results and of course so can you.

The challenge of finding the pros and cons, lay in the fact that all of them are right and wrong to some degree if not implemented with adequate knowledge of your nutritional needs.
How is this possible you might ask?
Ok let’s dive deeper:
Our bodies need 6 essential nutrients:
According to the World Health Organization those are:
Water, Protein, Carbs, Fats, Vitamins and Minerals
If your diet requires you to significantly reduce or eliminate one of these essential nutrients, chances are it’s a fad diet.
Now all fad diets have a common goal of achieving a caloric deficit which in turn helps you lose weight.

A caloric deficit is any shortage in the amount of calories consumed, relative to the amount of calories required for maintenance of your current body weight (energy homeostasis).
So basically
A caloric deficit is eating a little less than what you typically need to consume on a daily basis.

Let’s take a look at some popular diets out there

The Low Carb, Keto, Low Fat, Paleo, Clean Eating, Whole 30, and Raw Food diets all restricts food choices. Which in turn creates a caloric deficit

Now we have Weight Watchers, Zone, Flexible Dieting, Meal Plans all restrict food amounts. Which in turn creates a caloric deficit

Intermittent Fasting simply restricts time available to eat and in turn creates a caloric deficit
Lastly intuitive eating restricts the desire to binge or overeat and in turn creates a caloric deficit

Now You see a common trend occurring here?

Once again you have to read the well documented pros and cons of each fad diet and make an informed decision of which one matches your lifestyle and budget.

and more importantly use diets that do not significantly restrict or eliminate the 6 essential nutrients!
Once you understand the pros and cons of each fad diet you can use each diet as a temporary tool to achieve specific goals throughout your weight loss or weight gain journey.

They are all tools. So use them wisely.
